DirecTV Basics

DirecTV is a service provider of high quality TV content. It uses a small Satellite dish mounted on the side or roof of your home. As long as you have a clear view of the southern sky, DirecTV will work for you. Then you would need cabling from the dish to Satellite receivers at all of your TV locations. This will allow you to watch DirecTV content at any TV in your home!

DirecTV Dish

The dish, which is typically mounted on your house, is aimed at a specific location in the southern sky. It has LNBs (Low-Noise Block converters) that receive content from multiple different Satellites that are in orbit over the earth. To receive all of the current content including all of the HD channels, you need a dish with 5 LNBs. If you are a current DirecTV customer and had your system installed a year or more ago, you may not have the 5 LNB dish. Call us and we can help you figure it out and install a new dish if needed.

DirecTV Receivers

Standard definition (with or without a Digital Video Recorder) or High Definition (with or without a Digital Video Recorder) receivers are available. With a DVR, you can record programs very easily and watch them later. SD receivers will connect to your TV via a composite or S-Video connection. HD units will connect via a Component or HDMI connection. Audio will be connected via an analog (RCA) or Digital (Coax or Fiber) connection. The Digital connection is required for Dolby Digital signals on HD content.

DirecTV Programming

DirecTV has many different programming packages that bundle many popular channels together. The largest packages give you over 250 channels! They have movie packages, sports packages and more! They have over 85 channels of High definition (HD) content!
