You walk in to your Conference room and press a button on the wireless touch-screen controller. The lights come on to a perfectly dimmed level, the shades go down on the windows, the video screen drops down from the ceiling, the projector turns on and a promotional video starts playing. The video is brilliant, and the audio is playing beautifully from the in-ceiling speakers. You hook your laptop to a cable that is hidden in the table and press another button on the touch-screen and now your presentation is displayed on the screen. The Room  

The Conference or Board room is a very important room and needs to look professional. Besides your reception area, the Conference room is the most important room in your business and should make a lasting impression on your Employees and Customers. There are many different things that can be done in a conference room, and many different opinions about what is important. But in general, there are a few things that most people agree on. The room should be clean, painted in neutral colors and well lit. You really want it to portray your company philosophy. For example in a Law office, you will likely see a very heavy, well made table, big, plush comfortable chairs and neutral colors. But in a graphic design company, you might see a glass table, smaller, different colored chairs and bright graphics on the walls. Obviously these two examples would give a customer much different impressions about the business and the that's good because all businesses are different!

The Electronics 

The electronics in your Conference room can also present an image (pun intended). Imagine a Conference room with a flat screen TV mounted on the wall with all of the wiring hidden from view and in-ceiling speakers. Now imagine one with a metal TV stand with an old tube type TV, small computer speakers and wires hanging down the back. These two examples say two very different things about your business. Here are some of the things you should think about:

• Video--There are many options here, but mostly you would either use a flat panel display (LCD or Plasma) or a projector (LCD or DLP) and a screen. The flat panel display can either be mounted on the wall, or sit on a table. For projectors, you would mount it to the ceiling and either display it on a wall or a screen. A screen will make the picture look better, and can either be mounted on a wall or there are motorized versions that will drop down from the ceiling with the push of a button. Some customers choose to do both: A flat screen display for every day viewing and smaller groups, and a screen that deploys down from the ceiling in front of the flat screen for larger groups. If there are multiple displays being used then some type of video switching can be used to make sure that the proper video input is displayed on the correct display or displays.
• Audio--Speakers can be mounted in the ceiling or walls and can be used for a variety of things. If you want to play DVDs or have a cable or satellite receiver, the audio will play through the speakers. If it is a big room, you might want a wireless microphone connected through the speakers so that people in the back of the room can hear what the presenter is saying. Some kind of a small mixing board would be used to switch all of the audio inputs to the speakers.
• Lighting Control--Lighting control is a great option to really make your Conference room come to life. By using different "scenes", you can have a button that will dim the lights in front of the screen so that the video is easier to see.
• Control & Automation--Automation is really a nice option that will make everything easy to control. You can adjust the lighting, lower the shades, turn on the DVD player, projector or flat screen TV, and setup audio/video switching all from an easy to use touch screen controller. There wired and wireless options available. You can even use your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad to control the system!
