Structured Wiring

So what is Structured Wiring? Although the term means different things to different people, here are some definitions I found elsewhere on the Internet:

• A means to distributing services and technologies around a home or business over a network of built-in cables.
• A planned wiring method by which all services (phone, data, television, music, and security) originate from a central location or hub.
• A planned cabling system which systematically lays out the wiring and wire management necessary for communications, including voice, data, and video.

All are correct and say basically the same thing. It's all about a properly designed and installed wiring system. We take wiring very seriously here at ADI. We have seen our competitors do shoddy work and this is not an acceptable practice in our eyes.

Cabling

The design and installation of the wiring system is only one part of the Structured Wiring System. The other part is the wiring itself. Once again we are on top of our competitors by using only the highest quality cables as follows:

• Audio Cabling—We run 14 gauge cabling from the data center to every speaker or volume control location. All of our competitors use smaller 16 or 18 gauge which is just not acceptable to us.
• TV/Cable/Satellite Cabling—We run 2 RG-6 quad shielded cables from every TV location back to the distribution center. RG-6 quad shielded cable has the best noise rejection and low signal loss.
• Phone Cabling—Cat3 cable is still being used by our competitors, but we are using the better Cat6 cabling for Phone runs. It is not much more money but is a way better performing cable. We run Cat6 from each phone location to the data center.
• Network Cabling—Cat5 is OK for this, but we use Cat6 cable because it is a better performing cable for not much more money. We run a Cat6 cable from each location to the data center where it is terminated in to an RJ-45 patch panel.
• Alarm Cabling—22 gauge 4 conductor cabling is run from the mechanical room to all alarm sensor locations.

Termination

All of the above cables are terminated in to a wall mounted or stand-alone wiring panel in a central location. This makes for a clean trouble free installation that will last forever! It also makes it very easy to troubleshoot if things do go wrong.
